Ten Things You'll Love About Us
You’ve heard our name and maybe even seen our fliers and collection boxes, but you may not know who we are or what we do. We’ll tell you we’re the most fun charity in town, but it takes a lot of dedication and hard work to fulfill our mission of providing funds to some of the most vital nonprofits in our community. Take a peek behind the curtain to learn more about the hows and whys of what we’re doing and make sure to stay in touch so you know when and where to help!
Friends With Benefits is 100% Volunteer-Run: When you contribute to FWB through donations, event ticket purchases, or business sponsorships, you can be sure that the money raised goes directly to the community. From our drop-in volunteers to our board of directors, each person contributes their time and energy with a spirit of giving.
$135,000+ Raised for Local Non-Profits: We exist to lift up organizations in the community by providing them with funds, and since 2013, with generous contributions from you and the hard work of our volunteers, over $135,000 has been distributed to charities that support artists, disenfranchised demographics, emergency efforts, pets in need, and so much more!
We Aim to Host Accessible and Inclusive Events: Representation matters, so when we put on events, we want everyone to feel welcome and included. From drag shows to festivals designed to showcase some of the most diverse talent around, Friends With Benefits strives to keep ticket and merch prices affordable for as many people as possible.
Supporting the Arts: Denton is an arts town, which is one of the reasons we love it. Supporting artists in our community means paying each act while giving them the stage and the enthusiastic audience they deserve. Creating art isn’t cheap, so we offer scholarships each year for musicians, visual artists and performance artists to further their craft through education as well as grants to keep them working.
Supporting Youth: Our Cumberland Children’s Home Birthday Parties campaign is one of our largest on-going efforts. Every child deserves to celebrate their birthday, but it’s an experience many kids in foster care miss. With past beneficiaries like Denton County Big Brothers & Big Sisters, Koan School, GOAL Denton, and Denton ISD Child Nutrition, we strive to meet the needs of local kids on all fronts.
Supporting LGBTQIA Communities: Friends with Benefits wants you to know that we see you, hear you, love you, and care deeply about your well-being. Catch us supporting local orgs like Pridenton, Trans-Cendence International, Coalition for Aging LGBT, and OUTReach Denton and show some love regardless of how you love.
Volunteering is Easy: Have you ever wanted to get involved with a cause but felt intimidated by the time commitment or the fear that you won’t “fit in”? You’ve come to the right place! We pride ourselves on being a tight-knit group of hard-working folks, but all we need is your enthusiasm to welcome you into the fold -- whether you’re only available a few times a year or want to jump in with both feet.
You can support us with money you’re already spending: Your everyday purchases will support Friends with Benefits when you link your Kroger Community Rewards account or shop at smile.amazon.com and select Friends with Benefits as your charity to support. Those donations add up quickly and further our mission to support some of the hardest working nonprofits around.
Partnering with local businesses: Speaking of money you’re already spending, keep a lookout for charity nights with some of Denton’s most-loved businesses. You can support FWB by grabbing a beer from Oak Street Draft House, Lucky Lou’s, or Game Changers on Charity Mondays or participating in partner events like Painting for a Purpose at Painting with a Twist. Do you have a local business and want to join in on the support? Let’s get in touch!
Meeting Physical Needs for the Unhoused: Have you seen a big box in your favorite local spot that says, “Keep Denton Warm”? Yep, that’s us! Each Winter we partner with Our Daily Bread, Denton’s largest provider of free daily meals, to collect and distribute coats, hats, gloves, and other necessary comfort items to their guests in need.
If you need to know more, just ask! We’re always looking for new friends who are ready to spread the benefits of love, community, and support in North Texas.
